The theatre consists of three parts; front hall, hall of fame and theatre. The requirement changed when the duty free construction was in progress. Therefore, the three parts were strangely connected. Visitors have to walk up 4.5 meter from the front hall to the hall of fame and then another 3 meter to the theatre. We attempted to turn it to be our advantage. The front hall serves as the outside of the Palace where commercial activities happen and is lit by natural light. Before entering the hall of fame, the visitors find the souvenir shop and see the look of the Thai house veranda. The hall spatial sequence was developed to expand from a small scale to a grand scale. Two giants are placed in the front of the door. They are respected as gods of performance art in order to be a gimmick where the visitors can take photo. Then, the visitors reach a 4.5-meter high transition space, the hall of fame and are surprised with a 14-meter high open space after walking through narrow entrance. The hall of fame concept is inspired by a royal throne hall as the space volume is very high. The busabok golden throne and 3 Thai traditional marionettes are placed in the middle of the hall, and the stairs for entering the theatre are located on both sides of them. At the end of the stairs, the visitors reach a 3 meter high theatre level and the handicapped lift. The gallery is reminiscent of Thai temple cloister. The ceiling beams are decorated with Thai ornament painting. The entrance of the royal box seat is located behind the curved stair, and its walls are decorated with golden leaves. The carving relieves above the sand stone column illustrate feminine character from Thai literature in 8 story pockets. When the concept is finished, we collaborated with Sakorn Sopa, an artist who is responsible for Thai traditional decoration such as stucco, wooden craft and Thai ornament painting.
